BACKGROUND

Gender equality is a trend today, more and more girls are standing out and fighting for their rights. Thereinto, one of the social issues that are been affected by gender equality is the survival of single mothers and their families.

STATISTIC OF SINGLE MOTHERS IN MALAYSIA

According to the statistic, there is a large population of single mothers in Malaysia and it is being increased rapidly each year. Within the single mother in Malaysia, most of them is facing the financial issue and be classified as B40 income family. Besides, most of them need to carry for a family or at least feed a child.

STATISTIC OF B40 IN MALAYSIA

According to the income group categories, there are 3 categories, the T20 (Top 20%), M40 (Middle 40%), and B40 (Bottom 40%). People are classified as B40 people when their monthly income is less than RM2499~RM4849 (according to the city). They are usually seen as the most economically vulnerable.

MINDMAP & ANALYSIS

According to the journals and other statistics resources, I reckon that the first and the most important issue in this writing is the instability of single mother income due to the low education level, low paid job, lack of current working experience and etc. And the next issue is the poor performance of policies by the local government and related NGO associations. They don't provide protection for those single mothers and even make them feel harder to apply for welfare. Lastly, the uncertainly of entrepreneurship is also such a challenge for those single mothers. They need to carry more burdens such as lack of the source of mastering the survival skills or capital.

PROPOSAL

Therefore, I believe that providing a single mother club that focuses on raising the awareness of entrepreneurship, improving their survival skills and helping them on the parental issue would help them out of the situation a lot. The skill mastering program would focus on the skills that are easy for mothers to master and familiar to them such as cooking & baking, fashion (beauty, photography and sewing), and basic pet services.

CASE STUDIES ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP

By next, I did some case studies on the operation mode of entrepreneurship locally and globally. Most of them also through providing opportunities for practising to improve mothers' survival skills thereby encouraging them to be entrepreneurs and then slowly become income independent.
