BACKGROUND

Compare with the writing part which more focuses on the issues, this design part is seen as a separate part, which focusing the same issues but more focusing on the solutions and empathizes with end-user (single mothers and their kids).

Gender equality is a trend today, more and more girls are standing out and fighting for their rights. Thereinto, one of the social issues that are been affected by gender equality is the survival of single mothers and their families.

By narrowing the issue from poverty, the main issue is be reckoned to be the unstable financial income of single mothers.

STATISTIC & ANALYSIS

According to the statistic, there is a large population of single mothers in Malaysia and it is being increased rapidly each year. Within the single mother in Malaysia, most of them is facing the financial issue and be classified as B40 income family. Within them, single mothers who were stay-at-home all the way before becoming single mothers is been estimated as the most helpless group due to their lack of connection and lack of current working experience. And the issues that they facing all have connections but there are 5 main issues which are a workplace gender gap, financial issue, social isolation, poor performance of policies and work-life balance.

PROPOSAL & ANALYSIS

Therefore, I believe that providing an entrepreneurship centre for single mothers (especially those who was a stay-at-home-mom) that focuses on raising the awareness of entrepreneurship, improving their survival skills, providing help on their entrepreneurship activities and helping them with the parental issue would help them out of the situation a lot. The ultimate goal is to they can independency boost their own self's economic income.

The skill mastering programs would firstly consider the points of the skills that are easy to master and explore, low cost, in the line with the market needs, doesn't take a too long time to manufacture and convenient to sell online as well. Thereby, beauty & fashion and cooking & baking skills are first to be considered.

SPACE REQUIRED

Basically, this centre will provide tuition on cooking and baking, beauty and fashion. And the entire space will separate as a public area welcomes all, a public area welcomes single mothers only which means a workshops area and lastly also a private area for workers and their kids.

CONCEPT & DEVELOPMENT (lastest)

The design concept of this project is to express the single mothers is like to the lily of the desert. They are both surviving in harsh living conditions, but they will still bloom softly but strongly when the time comes. And the element is desert lily which represents the strong spirit and independence. In my concept mood board, I would like to express the feeling of independence, bravery and strength. According to the concept and element, sketches and concept model is more to express the softness and sharpness of the personality of mothers. Next, I came out with my material board based on my element and mood board, which mainly want to express the feeling of soft but strong, like adopting Rough or Concave Surface and Wavy Shaped. and I also decided to use lily-white as my base colour and Purple which also symbolizes independence as the highlighting colour.
