BACKGROUND

DESIGN FOR CHILDREN

Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development has made it compulsory for all government offices to have daycare centres for children and has urged private firms to follow suit as well. Meanwhile, there is an increasing voice to have big companies set up childcare centres at their offices, due to the issue of less time for parental care in double-income families. Childcare facilities at workplaces would benefit parents peace of mind and save time.

In general, qualified caregivers, a safe environment as well as fresh air and proper ventilation for the children are always be required to keep children safe and healthy. The decision to place their child in someone else's care can be a cause for anxiety.

BENEFITS FOR PARENTS

Provide a childcare centre at the workplaces, parents can also be assured of quality care and safety for their young children. Lots of time would take up on the road and it would be so much easier if there is a childcare centre at the workplace. On the other hand, we also can save for the schooling and childcare fees and also fuel costs.

BENEFITS FOR CHILDREN

It helps children develop skills they will need for success in school and in their lives outside of schools such as social, emotional, communication skills and pre-literacy and basic mathematical skills and concepts. In addition, they can be aware of their environment and the roles of the people in it. Last but not least, positive thoughts and positive skills and concepts for understanding the rules of life is also quite important for them.

Overall, a childcare centre at the workplace was a great idea as it gives families the opportunity to be closer, achieving work and life balance.

CASE STUDIES

CONCEPT & IDEA | SPACE REQUIRED

In this project, I would like to bring out one of the common child behaviour problems, food-related problems. I hope that they are able to be independent, have a healthy diet, and appreciate the food in this childcare centre.

The main activities for children are experiencing and mastering planting skills, and the outcome in planting progress could be used in cooking. Children are also encouraged to participate in the cooking progress, thereby they would value the effort they put in and reduce food waste when cultivating healthy eating habits. In addition, the kitchen scraps would be taught to children to reuse as fertilizer and be used in the planting progress.

SITE ANALYSIS

As there is a population of working parents at INTI, having an on-site facility that can take care of their young children would be a great addition to the workplace. the site will be at the INTIMA Office, ground floor, Block A of INTI Subang.
